[ge-talk] search on desktop

I think there should be a search bar on the desktop. I have it with Google
Desktop. It should find things on the web and on my system. What I'm
thinking is a cross between Google desktop search ( not the whole sidebar
thing) Flock and Firefox's search which allows you to add search engines
with the opensearch.org framework.
(in flock you see web search, bookmarks and history results together at
once)

But there is another reason, though perhaps controversial, why it's a good
idea. Opera used to charge money and then had ads in their browser. But they
were able to make it free with no ads because of the google search. Mozilla
is also making millions of dollars because of their deal with google. No ads
or spyware-just make something people love. A win-win in my book.
Haiku needs money to attract developers and promote itself. How many stories
of developers who left because of "Reality"? As a potential user, i want
some kind of assurance that haiku is sustainable.
On the other hand, Google is threatened by Vista which has integrated MSN
search. Non MS search engines need an OS that creates an open field for
search so they will appreciate us. And no GPL3 to restrict them.
