I disagree. Just because someone else does it, doesn't mean we should.
Desktop searches are Ok, if you use them frequently.

Where abouts do you propose to place the search bar? (In Deskbar i 
presume)?

How should it find things on the Web? With Firefox? This could be quite 
an 
annoyance, if you accidently launch firefox through the search feature 
:-P.

It's definently an idea, though.
