surely there must be other useless keys such as the scroll lock key...

it's not just about alt f4. If that were so, this scheme wouldn't be
worth it. The problem is that there are scores of shortcuts to
remember and the more apps you use, the crazier it gets. Even with
this one example, it's probably faster to type control cw enter than
to stop, look at the keyboard (not so easy to touch type) and then
hold alt f4

No euro sign on my keyboard. I don't count on keyboards ever changing
but at least we have software to work with!
we can also use the windows key for our nefarious purposes...what, you
never heard of an easter egg before? seriously, it's best if not used
because people end up hitting it by accident trying to hit control
