It seems to me to be some sort of hack too...

No, it doesn't exist, but it's a better approach I think.
 
The one occasion where the left-single-as-left-double setting from UniversalScroller becomes a bit of a nuisance is when using FireFox & Seamonkey: their 'File- Edit-View-History-Bookmarks-Help' menubar items don't open in this setup.  
I have to use the third mouse button (set up as performing a left-single click in US) to open it. With a Tracker option this "problem" wouldn't exist.

Actually no, which supports the idea of adapting Tracker.

Windows has that option, but I never use it (looks too messy there). I also don't miss it when using BeOS with US, but wouldn't mind if it were possible.
