How would this work in list boxes? Selection and invocation are two 
distinct operations there. I would find it weird to use the right 
("secondary") button to select list items, mainly as my brain has the 
right button mapped to context menus I suppose.

However I think there is a case for re-thinking the way tracker works in 
this respect, as it's true that "invoking" files must be more common 
than wanting to select a single file without wanting the context menu. 
All I'd miss would be the click-to-rename functionality (though perhaps 
it's easier to press F2 anyway).

I find MS Windows' select-after-hover slightly odd, especially as it 
makes no odds if you click before or after the hover time elapses. If we 
were to do single click in tracker, I'd think selecting either with the 
right button if you want a context menu, or selecting without a context 
menu by holding a modifier or by dragging a box starting in a non-active 
area gives enough options for selection.
